" The videoinstallation “ I want to be bigger” is a play with sizes, relations and meanings.First we have the box, which the artist named THE GALLERY. The box is open, but still a room for itself. If you see the open box in a usual art exhibition space, the box appears like a miniature of the surrounding area; a white cube in a white cube. It is a very small meaningless room and object. The visitor focuses the room, the object, to make a difference to the surrounding area. Of course focusing something small, means to make the same thing bigger. Looking on the inside of THE GALLERY, we see a little white doll without head. Inside the small box the doll appears big, but in relation to the surrounding outside of the box, the doll appears small. Behind, on the videoscreen, in the gallery box, we see a speaking head, perhaps the missing head of the doll in front of the screen. In relation to the doll and the gallery box , the head on the screen is really big, so that the body of the doll nearly disappears in the speaking head. But In relation to a real human head, the head on the screen is small and also the whole installation is small. So ,while change from an interior view to an exterior view we can perhaps understand, that the head repeats only one sentence: “I want to be bigger”. " Matthias Biermann

Matthias Biermann was born 1965 in Berlin ,Germany. He has gratuated in german language and literature studies, Saarbrucken, Manheim, Berlin /1986-1989/ and art studies in HDK Berlin /1990-1996/. Lives and works in Berlin.

5 artists from Bulgaria, Italy and Germany go in field of present social icons and ordinary concepts. In this 5 artistic researches we are looking for identify of the present man in our crazy chaotic reality. Love, urban life style, art system, religion, social frames are in a center of the artistic games. Romantic, provocative, radical and ironic the project express present worries of the players in art industry game and same time creates new icons close to present trendy in visual forms established of mass media and art leaders in the market. “he/art/mythology’ project is a game of words and exchange the meanings.It is a transformation of concepts and creation of false language. It’s about our habit to create fetishes and to live in false mythology. There is a message to be free following the traditions and expression of the worries about human existence in present times. Same time there are the questions about art system and the place of the present artist in it. And these questions are in base of the artist’s expression by the means of installation, video, objects and collages. BULART gallery project in ARTVILNIUS

ARTVILNIUS'09 – the first international contemporary art fair in the Baltic States

DATE: 8-12 July 2009

VENUE: Lithuanian Exhibition and Conference Center LITEXPO

ORGANIZER: Lithuanian Art Gallerists’ Association (LMGA)

Vilnius is the European capital of culture in 2009. One of the most important and largest events of this program will be the first international art fair ever to be held in the Baltic States – ART VILNIUS’09.A wide and representative panorama of contemporary art will be opened at LITEXPO Lithuanian Exhibition and Conference Center. The area of 11,632 sq. m will be occupied by some 100 well-known and new galleries from Lithuania, its neighboring countries and galleries from Bulgaria, Germany, Holland, France, Italy, Russia, Austria,Argentina, Spain,Canada, Belgium, Romania, Switzerland, Portugal i etc. Podium discussions, educational events and plenty of other different events are also in the program of ARTVILNIUS’09.

Bulart gallery will presents "he/art/mythology" project with Paolo Vivian /Italy/, Matthias Biermann /Germany/ and bulgarian artists Simeon Stoilov, Plamen Solominski and Kaloyan Iliev- Kokimoto. stand 4.2, hall 4 in LITEXPO,Vilnius, Lithuania.
